Task

Over the last few weeks, you have explored the architecture of sacred spaces and how these impact an understanding of the beliefs, values and expressions of faith.

Your task is to write an essay that explores how religious or spiritual beliefs are expressed in the architecture of one chosen tradition.

Task Components

1. Choose a religious tradition (e.g. Christian (specific denomination), Buddhism).

2. From this Religious tradition, select a significant sacred space/ building that expresses the religious tradition.

3. Research the contexts of the time it was created (eg. cultural, historical, political and/ or social) and analyses the impact of this time periods context on the style, design and key features of this sacred space.

4. Explain the sacred space and critique how it expresses the beliefs, values and traditions of your chosen religion/ spirituality of this time.
