Civics and Citizenship Guides: Comparison of Australian political parties

Task Overview

Compare TWO Australian political parties chosen from the following:   

  • Labor Party   

  • Liberal Party  

  • National Party  

  • Greens 

  • One Nation 

 

Your report is to be structured in TWO sections. 

Part A: the nature of your chosen political parties. This is to be completed in a comparative table.  

   a) When were your chosen political parties founded? 

   b) Who founded the parties and what were their reasons? 

   c) What are the main values and ideas that your chosen parties promote? 

   d) What is the support base of your chosen parties? Who is likely to vote for them and why?  

   d) How successful have your chosen parties been in gaining seats in Parliament? Have they been able to form government? If so, when and for how long? 

   e) Influential leaders: have your chosen parties been influenced by individuals? Choose ONE person of influence from your chosen party and explain the role that they have played.  

Part A Word length: 400 words (total) 

Part B: develop an inquiry question that will allow you to complete the following activity: 

Select ONE key issue of your choice, such as education, climate change, the economy, the environment, health or immigration.  

   i) Your task is to create and answer an inquiry question that allows you to explore the similarities and/or differences between your chosen parties’ policies on that issue. (200-250 words) 

   ii) Using specific details, explain which party’s stance on your chosen issue is more favourable to you and why. (200-250 words) 

Complete Part B using TEEL paragraphs which answer your inquiry question.   

  • You must use a variety of relevant reliable sources and include in-text references. This can take the form of paraphrasing or direct quoting.  

  • You must include a Reference List using the College Referencing Guide -refer to LibGuide on Referencing. This uses the Harvard system of referencing.
